I'm installing a new to me set of intake/exhaust manifolds. I got them separated from two different junkers and believe they are from different years. I also opted to dump the o.e. bolts and install all new studs with lock washers and nuts. I am keeping the thick o.e. washers that lock the tangs of each manifold to the block. The problem is when I get everything lined up and ready to tighten down, the stock washers are not wide enough to cover the entire gap between the tangs on the manifolds. Is this a common issue and is there any readily available way to solve it? Perhaps a wider washer of the same thickness? For what it's worth, the block only has one hole for a locating pin, but everything appears to be lined up regardless. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
I just put an intake on mine this weekend with no probs...do you have a way to put up a pic to show whats goin on? I really am not sure what to tell u at this point if u are using the correct washers
I have read that it is best not to have the two manifolds joined tightly until you have the manifolds attached to the engine. At that time, you can tighten the three bolts holding the intake to the exhaust manifold.
