Extended cranking time

05' v10 F250. I have noticed lately that it takes more cranking time to start the engine. It dosent sound like the cranking speed is any slower. Any ideas?

Try to start it with all of your lights on - and the brake pedal. See if it maybe takes even longer?

Try waiting for 10-15 seconds after you turn the key to ON before going to START and see what happens.

The pressure in the fuel system might be bleeding down, or the fly-by-wire is taking a while to cycle, or something else we can work on with you

Well I tried the lights on thing and saw no difference. It idles fine. The truck has 73k on it. I also have tried leaving the key ON before cranking....no change.

My first thought was the crank position sensor, I have heard this causing starting problems on other vehicles. Oh the fuel filter has 8k on it.

Might just be time for spark plugs. That was the first sign I got that mine were wearing out. Then came the missing and bad fuel mileage.

Might also try disconnecting the battery for fifteen minutes. Also, if you have cruise control, leave the sensor on the master brake cylinder disconnected.

Change the plugs if you haven't already. Be ready for a fight-they've been in there long enough to get somewhat stuck, but not to the point of impossible like it would be if they were at their recommended 100K mile service interval.
