Where to search...
1) Disconnect the Battery. Should be done when working on any part of the vehicle electrical system.
2) Open the door in question.
3) Around the interior handle that opens the door ther is a plastic trim ring. REMOVE IT, and store in a safe place so as not to damage it.
4) You will now see a bolt securing the handle to the door frame, Insert an 8mm either nutdriver or rachet and remove and store said bolt. This will allow you to remove the door panel instead of letting it hang.
5) If the door in question is one of the front doors, you must first remove the sail panel which is secured in place by 2 round push type pins that connect the bottom of the sail panel to the door frame. It also has a blade type connector that secures it to the door frame. This connects the rear of the sail panel to the front of the door frame. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN REMOVING THE SAIL PANEL AS NOT TO DAMAGE ANY OF THE CONNECTORS.
6) Behind the sail panel is phillips head screw, REMOVE IT and store it in a safe place.
7) Holding the door panel grab bar, PULL THE ENITRE DOOR PANEL UPWARDS. This will diasconnect the door panel from the door frame.
8) Disconnect the window and lock wiring harnesses.
9) You may have to manipulate the door handle so as to be able to remove the panel.
10) Remove the factory installed paper speaker by removeing the four bolts that hold them in place.
11) Replace with the speaker of your choice.
12) Installation of door panel is the reverse of removal.
It is not a difficult project as the doors are only held in place by one or two screws/bolts each. I apologize for my earlier post as I surmised that the removal of a door panel was not too detailed of a item.
I hope this helps you in the installation of your new speakers. If you have any further questions feel free to ask as I will attempt to answer them in as detailed a manner as I can. Good Luck.
And DONT FORGET HIS YEARS XPEDITION EXPEDITION!!!!!
Thanks Man, but I had actually already done it by the time I sent that last post. Did you look at the web site I mentioned? It has some really good pics along with descriptions of what to remove to chang speakers. I do, however, really appreciate your help.
