Bizarre Electrical Short
1990 F150 351W 4x4. Since I got the truck I've known there has been a short in it - my batteries kept dying. For the longest time I could not seem to track it down. Then today, after I finished replacing the tranny I decided to do some interior work. It has a red interior - I don't like red - and was gonna swap with a gray one I have. It's fairly rusty and I decided to break a stubborn bolt, first using a crowbar since I couldn't rack down my sawzall. At the time I felt it would release some anger I felt toward the truck. Well, as I'm laying out some aggression on said bolt I hear my fuel pump kick on. Every time the crowbar hits the bolt, metal to metal, the fuel pump kicked on. What the hell?
I can do quite a bit mechanically but I wouldn't go so far as to say I know nearly enough. Electrical shorts and issues still elude me a little. How do I track down where the short is? Test light the wires until I find it? I've asked a couple mechanics I know and either they don't feel like taking the time to explain it or they really don't know.
Any help would be appreciated! I'm kind of at a loss with this one.
