My son has a 1997 F150 Flareside 4x4 with a 5.4. It is pretty much stock, so what is a good reasonably priced shock that you guys would recommend for his truck. The ones that are on have almost 300k on them.
Shocks are the next thing I want to invest in with my truck. I've read some good reviews on the Rancho 5000 shocks, you can get them for about 50 a piece.
The truck is pretty much stock with the exception of slightly wider/taller tires. There is no aftermarket lift or anything added to the truck. He uses it for transportation only (and bragging rights, he is proud of the 300k that is on it). He loves Ford trucks! He has studied Ford and it's rich history and keeps up with the latest models and all of that good stuff. He wouldn't think of owning a Chevy. Anyway he is a good kid and I am trying to help him get this truck back in tip top shape, and any help would be appreciated.
Well there seems to be two major shocks that are used on FTE.
Bilstein Heavy Duty (HD) Shocks
Said to be very firm shocks.
or Rancho RS5000 or the adjustable XL9000
If it were my truck I would try the XL9000 since the adjustable feature would allow him to figure out for far cheaper in my opinion how firm of a shock he wants.
That and its another thing he could brag about especially if he gets of the in cab controls for the shocks.
