I founds some very interesting pictures the other night, after digging in a box of pictures from my great grandparents. I found a set of pictures from 1984, when my great grandfather took ownership of the truck from his best friend who became blind (also the original owner). The truck had the the passenger-side mirror delete (with rubber plug in place) and the driver's-side extension mirror. The only thing I found odd was the extension mirror had a round head, but was the original mirror. My great grandfather years ago installed a set of aftermarket trailer towing mirrors, which are now in the garbage to be replaced with original-style mirrors. Since both the extension mirror and the small round mirror are correct, I have decided to install the small round mirrors, as I think they look much better.
Now, the question. My catalogs list the mirrors with the FoMoCo label engraved on the back of the head and mirrors without the label. Which one is correct for a 1960 Ford F-100 with a Custom Cab and Styleside bed?
Hi,
I did some searching through my manuals, and parts and accessories catalog.
They all list the small chromed mirrors as having the round mirror head, and the telescoping arm mirrors as having a 6" square mirror head. They do show that either type was correct though.
Unfortunately, none of these books showed if they had a "FoMoCo" logo on them.
Which catalog do you have that gives you a choice?
I know your not looking for a guess here, but my money would be on the "FoMoCo" one if it comes down to that.
Sorry I couldn't help further.
I have a ton of catalogs, but the ones I am refering to are the Sacramento Vintage Ford and the Mac's catalogs. I will be purchasing the mirror from Sacramento Vintage Ford, as I live near the facility. I am guessing the FoMoCo labeled mirror is correct, however I am going for a 100% correct restoraion (with the exception of blue dot tail light lenses) and would like to have the correct mirror. Sacramento Vintage Ford has a reproduction plain mirror, a reproduction FoMoCo labeled mirror, and a license Ford Company FoMoCo labeled mirror. Any help on which is correct would greatly be appreciated
By the way, does anyone have an explanation for the extension mirror with the round head which the truck originally came with? My great grandfather passed away a few years ago, and we could not find the original mirror on the property, but is clearly seen in the pictures. It was the original mirror, it just sort of struck me as odd since it was supposed to have a rectangular head.
525,
I have a '59 Styleside. I got my round mirrors with FoMoCo stamp from SacVinFord. The thing that caught my attention was how poorly the rubber seal fit in the slot on the doors. It is a narrow rectangular grommet that doesn't seem to fit into the slot on the outside of the door well at all. I thought its function was to keep moisture/water out of the inside of the door, but oh well...
Where the mirrors you purchased from Sacramento Vintage Ford the reproduction FoMoCo mirrors or the authentic Ford restoration parts mirrors they also sell? In their catalog, they list both and state the authentic Ford restoration mirror is of lower quality than their reproduction FoMoCo mirror. I'm just curious as to your feelings of the quality of the part. I was planning on driving down to Sacramento in the next few days to compare the two and purchase the better of the two, but am open to other vendors if their mirrors are not of high quality. Also, did you find the grommet to be a Sacramento Vintage Ford part problem? If so, does anyone sell a better version of the part, or is this just the way all the Ford mirror grommets fit? Also, if anyone who knows if FoMoCo was originally stamped on the mirrors when the trucks came from the factory please let me know.

The exterior mirrors are reproductions, but they are licensed by FoMoCo. The quality is excellent, in my opinion. The grommet is shaped exactly like the grove it's supposed to go in on the exterior of the door. However, the grove is curved and the grommet is not, so the grommet doesn't "conform" to the curvature of the slot in the door it's supposed to fit into. Did that make sense???
And yes, the original mirrors were stamped FoMoCo from the factory.
Sorry took me so long to write back. If you've already gone to Sacto and back, please let me know what you ended up with and how you liked the SacVinFord store and the people there. I've always wanted to take a road trip up there. I live in Central California, between Bakersfield and Fresno!
I will be going to Sacramento Vintage Ford next week, as they have limited hours tomorrow and I will be busy. I have been to the store a few times, and it is very nice. The store is basically a museum with a parts counter. There are Model A's and T's, hot rods, etc. around the place with a few rows of parts and books. There is also a huge parts counter with catalogs and a very freindly staff. They will go out of their way to make things happen. I went there to purchase a bunch of parts a while back, including blue dot tail light lenses. They were completely out of the blue dot lenses, so they went in the back, and assembled a pair on the spot, which turned out beautiful. They also were able to help me with a white gearshift handle, which wasn't in the catalog, but in their stock. If you have the opportunity, I would highly recommend visiting the store.
