I am sure this topic has been beaten to death but it is certainly worth repeating. Some dealerships must think that their customers are either stupid, rich or the dealerships have never heard of the internet. Here are two examples....
1. My 2006 Escape hybrid is about to run out of the extended warranty. I never thought I would keep it so long but since I like the vehicle so much, I looked into extending the warranty beyond the 5yr/75k that I originally bought. I spke with another member who referred me to someone who specializes in online warranties. Their prices to extend the warranty were several hundred dollars LESS than the price given to me by my dealer even after my dealer offered me a 10% repeat customer discount. Oh yeah, and the deductible was less at the online guy. Same Ford warranty otherwise.
2. I needed a battery air conditioning filter for the same vehicle. It is for the high voltage battery and needs to be checked at 10k and replaced after no more than 20k miles. The dealer wanted $35.76 for this filter which is about the same size as a deck of cards. The online parts guy here sells the same filter for $19. Even after paying for shipping, I am still $10-15 ahead. I will buy a bunch of other maintenance items to dilute the shipping costs.
Bottom line is, shop around.
I know I can't mention the dealer I am ranting about, but could I give a plug to the online folks? They really do take care of us here.....
i , unfortuneately put up with this with the dealership we got her van from as i will not work on the infernal thing !!!!!!!!!!!!!! but they do have a tendency to think your an idiot till you prove them otherwise . case in point : the dealership was told to change the filter and fluid in her van before we took a wee bit of a trip south . i being the cynical smart a-- got under it and cleaned and dried a place off on the trans pan and case and put a peice of tape on it . she came back and when got off work i looked under it . had not been touched . the dealership wasn't too happy with me when I took it back over and crawled all over their ***** in full view of peeps looking at or buying cars ............... at least they know to watch their bull and prices when mrs. troesch comes in as the **** hole is watching ..... and i love to make a pain of myself , and pay my lawyer to make things unbearable for even bigger **** holes !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ray, if they are our sponsors feel free to plug away. They deserve the recognition if they have earned your repeat business.
Alrighty then.....
For parts, Partsguyed has been great. Prices and customer service are tough to beat.
For the warranty I was referred to Ford of Greenfield (fd-warranty.com). Guy there named Troy gave me a fantastic price on the Ford extended warranty. They also have a salesman there named BigKen who is an alright guy too....at least as far as car salesmen go.
You really gotta watch those 3rd party extended warranties
Old-Crow, I wouldn't even consider buying a third-party warranty. It is a Ford Premium Care warranty that I hope I never have to use. But if I do, any Ford dealership better accept it.
Good deal on the warranty. I've worked at(not Ford)dealerships for almost 20 years and I've seen a lot of people who got ripped by the 3rd party people. Hard to have to tell a guy who just lost a motor that the $1500 warranty some sales guy sold him won't cover it.

The Ford Dealer here in Fallon NV has raised his prices to were most of the shops here quit buying parts from them. I asked the price of a used 01 Chevy Lumina in great shape & low miles & they told me the price they wanted & it was $3000 over Kelly Bluebook RETAIL in EXCELLENT CONDITION with the low miles. I tried other time & they wanted about the same over Bluebook on an Explorer.
I needed a dealer only part for my 86 F250 4x4 an A/C hose. The shop doing the work didn't even call the local Ford Dealer. He called the Ford Dealer in Reno & they found one in Texas. It came the other day. The price was real fair as far as I was concerned.
This is my RANT.
