i quit racing years ago as even the cheapest classes were becoming a case of he with the most dumb money wins and the idgits who were coming into the local scenes that were a win at all costs type of personality . now i have decided to give up my last bastion of pro racing i liked to watch as struggling with there rules changes , and point chase changes , and the now stupid look at me four abreast side show , and some things i've seen and observed as of late , as it has become readily apparent they , none of the pro racing leagues , care about the little guy . i quit watching crapcar i.e nascar as tas the rules changes , the whiny a-- win at all costs younger drivers , and the now generic" dont use your brains to make a better car ", cars have killed it . give me the days when they were really stripped out cars and drivers like junior johnson , yarborough and the like !!!!!!! i watched the races in atlanta this weekend for nhra and how dull . multicar teams with major bucks winning it all , the little guys getting stepped on due to a lack of funding , and to be honest every one of these sports price's of play is way outta hand . chriminy even going to the local tracks you'll find the programs being cut for the local guy's and rules that seem to be a little odd and leaning towards bringing in big money players . i give up . sooner or later they'll all be left standing with their privates in their hands going " what happened to all the people and money " when everyone else tires of it . look atindy car racing . the are lucky to even be here or on tv , and i think that's gonna be changing again soon !!!!!!!!!
I was doing some small time local short track racing a few years back. I had four good sposnors and still couldn't afford to keep the car on the track. This was in a mini-stock class. I was spending more than $400 a week on just the weekly costs of it and still was not getting good results because of all the people that had $10000 into their stock cars. Just couildn't compete. Sold the car, the trailer, the parts, everything. I really wish it had worked out. I love racing and every spring I get that urge again. I go watch the local guys from time to time, but its not the same.
I go to the local circle track as mucha s I can I like to watch all the classes except the late models which look like the Nascar cars. I prefer the stock looking cars they just look more impressive. I've been trying to get into a race car myself, but funds and lack of sponsors keeps me out of it. They recently introduced a couple of new classes at this track. One is the six shooter class which is basically a stock fwd V6 car that's bone stock except its stripped and has a roll cage in it. This series of car will cost about $1500 and about $30 to enter. The other is the bandit series which is 4 cylinder cars. Which are slightly modded 4 cylinder cars with roll cages and cost around $2000-2500 bucks and $30 to enter. After that the stock costs about $7500 for a car, the sportsman is about $15000 for a car and Late models are about $35000. I can get a turn key bandit with extra parts for about $1000 plus I would need safety equipment, this seems doable to me. I don't think I would win much, but at leas I get to go fast in a circle I do enjoy watching the "little" guys duke it out is stock looking cars way more then the big dollar monsters that all look the same.
the two lower classes at my local dirt track are fairly affordable, hobby stocks and IMCA stock cars. when you want to move up to a modified or late model, that is when it gets expensive if you want to be competitive. Even though the late models are IMCA sanctioned, they are still pricey to run on a weekly basis, but just about any driver has the chance to win because the cars are close to being equal power wise,it;s just who got the set up right.
it's gotten outta hand here and in the big leagues . the need to be creative and inventive has gotten replaced by who's got the most cash . i've seen guy's and girl's in the cheap 4 banger class spend 5-750 for custom tuners for cars that have a 400 dollar claim rule just so they can win . then just before i had had enough the " home " track took on crapcar sanctioning and i had to give up 125 a year for a piece of freakin' paper saying i could do what i had been doing for years !!!!!!! then the stupid politically correct rules ....... man i could go on forever ............ it all needs to get back to where it was 20 - 30 years ago without all the bull ................ when it was still FUN !!!!!!!!!
Check out things such as Chumpcar, or the 24 Hours of Lemons. Its racing on the cheap, not one persons car can cost more then $500 total.
Not exactly professional racing, but I believe it to be some of the truest racing around.
So are two good races, wish they were weekly series. We are building a car for Lemons next year. We got a late start this year and we'll just end up enduroing or demo derby the car we are currently building.
