Engine Swap ?'S

I have a 1997 F-250 with a 5.8 l motor. I am going to be installing a set of 4.10 solid axles off of a 97 f350. I also ave a 1978 grand marquis with a 460 motor. Would it be possible to put the 460 into the truck?

Thanks for the help!

Yes that 460 was a optional engine that year so it could be done, but you would need a transmission, maybe transfer case, drive shafts, if you were going to carb the fuel system would have to be changed or modified. It might be easier to find a another 460 powered truck and just swap everything or stroke that 5.8 to a 408 or 427 and get a tuner.

If you are in the greater wyoming area i have a 97 efi 460 out of a f250. it would be a drop in. You could take all the wiring harness and such. the carb swap would be a pain . However in theory the swap is very possible, but it will not be easy by any means. If you have a auto it is a whole new set of problems as well.

don't forget the oil pans are a different shape to deal with the different suspension systems. So you'll have to swap the pan and possibly the pump and screen too.

If you are going with a 460 you might consider putting a 3.73 gears in it because with the 410 you are revving that big monster pretty high. My dad had a '92 with a 460 and 373 gears. He was able to pull off about 16 MPG with that combo. He went to a '95 with the 460 and 410 gears and the best he could get was 12. Just something to consider
