Not true, I've had my alternator maxed out in load and even running against the IP governor (3800 rpms) she did not slip, it's a 130-amp 3G alternator with the factory V-belt pulley on it. That said running two V-belts is a good idea with the big and powerful alternator, but it would require some medium-duty truck parts...

Well, I just ordered a 70amp ACDelco unit. I figure seeing as I'm not looking to get into wiring and mount upgrades right now and I'm not running any extra accesories (nor do I have plans to do so except maybe extra LED lights) the 70amp unit will do fine for me.

Regarding my stuck glowplug, believe it or not it still works (according to the test light check) even after wrenching on it and breaking the hex off so I plugged it back in and left it. I figure I have 7 ZD1A'a in there and 1 champion. As long as I keep the 7 good ones working I won't have a problem. Besides, it was starting ok on 4 glows.

The alternator, is it the 1G kind with external voltage regulator (square box on the passenger-side inner fender), or internally-regulated 2G? 1G is perfectly fine, 2G likes to catch fires at the charge harness plug.

WOW! LCAM-01XA I didn't know that..... good to know. As it turns out the one I ordered is 1G with the external voltage regulator. Thanks for the info though!

Yeah, the 2G was around on these trucks for just a year or two, then Ford realized the error of their ways and went back to 1G. 1G is pretty tough, some offroaders prefer it to the more powerful 3G stuff, but then there are many who love the 3G for the better output at idle and low engine speed (good when you have big light arrays). And the 2G itself is not bad, it's just the connector gets corroded and overheats and burns up and can lead to a vehicle fire - most auto parts stores tho sell a nice replacement connector with wires sticking out of it already, you just cut the old connector and splice the new one in and you're good to go.
