2002 expy p1299 code.... please help

Ok here is the deal,

My 02 expedition 5.4L E.B. ,Has had a few issues here and there , 1yr ago i replaced 2 coils and all 8 plugs and boots. and it has been reliable every since then NO ISSUES AT ALL . yesterday i drove all over the place and ran perfect got home had the A/C running but thats nothing new its hot as hell in florida :-) , anyways i jumped in this morning to take the kids to the beach ( keep in mind hasent been ran since yesterday) and as soon as i fired up the engine it started stumbling and did not want to run engine was cold still and it gave no warnings the previous day. anyways i milked the throttle until it would idle decent, and too off up the hwy for a test drive it seemed to run ok ,but it did have a little hesitation, so i floored it and kept it pegged to the floor until i was about at 88mph, then i let off the gas, turned around and went home, when i pulled in the driveway it was running fine, i got out with the engine runningand the A/C was still on too seemed okay, but it smelled hotfor a min or so,i chalked that up to running it so hard just prior to that. so at that point still had not gotten any CEL, I went to the gas station and filled my tank. As soon as i started it up the CEL and OIL Temp lights came on and the Water temp guage was pegged all the way in the red zone immediately , it felt like it was only running on 3 cylinders and it was so sluggish it took all it had to shift into the next gear. I made it home but it scared me ....have any of you had this issue? by the way it has 126,000 miles on it. i am gonna change the coolent temp head sensor tomorrow. but i hop a few of you Fellow Blue bloods can shed some light on this for me,

thankyou,
Clay

You drove it with a pegged temperature gauge and a lit oil light?

I checked the oil at the time it was good, also NOknocking, so it's okay, i heard the p1299 code is a fail safe for overheating, and i drove it less then 2 miles, ... and the coolent was full and the oil was normal color, the electric fan was on too, i wonder if the sensor just took a crap. look i am no idiot if i feel damage was apperant i would stop and call for a tow... even just 2 mil,es away...

i know someone has had an issue like this,,, Bump anyone?
