Alright i need good advice on runninf limited slips in the front diff of my truck. Its a 150 whith the 300-6 and a D44 front TTb front. How much should i expect to pay and how well will it work.
You'll be able to run 3.73's and down otherwise you have to change the pumpkin to go lower. A factory LS will be like a hundred bucks. I see you live in Spokane, LS is alot better than open but it's not really worth anything for crawling. I'm assuming there's rockcrawling in Washington, what do I know?
I supose one could crawl out here but mostly what i do is trail running. I dont have the money or the time to invest in the equipment and inevetable breakage in rock crawling. I only see tha occasianal mud run mostly just big puddles on the trail.
Hi-
Ford's limited slip is PERFECT for what you want out of your wheeler. Check out all that Mustang(221? i think) has to say about beefing them. Tell me what your plans for the rear are too.
well i was thinking about going whith a locker in the back but the budget has tightened up seeing as how im putting efi on it. So i may just go whith a factory possi in the back too if they are only $100, and since i wont be real abusing the truck.
don't waste your money on a posi for the front, i go everywhere with just a lockright locker in the rear, which i picked up for $150 off ebay. I do mud, rocks, whatever the trail can throw at me, the truck does it with ease.
You can put a rear factory LS (posi is a chevy term) in there for about 125 bucks if you do the work yourself. I picked up the carrier with the side/spyder gears for 50 bucks on Ebay. As long as it's a 31 spline 8.8 version it's fine. Mine came from an explorer. The rebuild kit from ford costs 75 bucks, highly suggest you do that. Basically it puts a new clutch pack in it. That will make it just like new. Stocker is 3 clutches on each side, you can put 4. The clutch next to the side gear sees the most wear, so if you take a clutch from the outside you can re-use it and put 8 clutches in instead of 6, makes it more aggressive. Thats if the clutches are in fairly good shape from when you bought it. If not, you can stick with the 6 or buy a 2nd clutch kit from ford and put 8. For the front, I'm not familiar with the LS, I know that they are pretty rare but if you can fine one on Ebay or similar you're golden. Put a rebuild kit on it and you should be good to go.
well im thinking about an LS (sorry about the chevy terms ) in the front too becouse it will most likley be a recovery vehicle, thos full sized chevy guys get stuck alot (they try to take lines no truck should be taken through), so ill be looking for mucho traction.
So I take it a locker or the ideal selectable locker is out of the question? Try junk yards and Ebay. However, the carrier you get depends on the gear ratio. I think the carrier break is at 3.73. So if you are using say 4.09 gears you can't use the same carrier as if you had 3.54 gears.
IMO, i really don't think you'll be too happy with an LS. I had one in the front of my truck, still only would spin one wheel and I would get stuck alot, it was a traclok 6 disc (pretty much an OEM type LS).
Were the clutches in good condition? Because when the clutches have some decent miles on them, they don't perform as well as new. You can also put 8 clutches in like I mentioned and it'll be more aggressive.
