My '98 Expy has the CD button on the face of the radio, but the CD player unit was not installed. Where are the stock CD players mounted in the XLT models? If I put an aftermarket CD changer unit in the vehicle where is the best place to put it? Any help welcome!
Tim
The stock 6 disc changer is mounted inside the console of the Expy. Open the console, and it is mounted aiming up, towards the rear on the passenger side of the console.
Yeah, With the CD player in the Center Console Ford leaves just enough room for you to put ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. You Could put that CD Changer anywhere in the truck. I dont have Ford Changer Anymore, but if it allows you to install it Flat, instead of vertical, you could slide it under the front or rear seats out of the way. The only tough part about wiring it up could be Fishing the wire under the carpet. Ive had some trying times running wire under that carpet.
We had a stock unit installed in the console and the wife loves it. On her previous vehicle it was under the seat and even thought she could reach it from the front seat it was still a pain.Keeps anything she wants in one of the kids old lunch boxes and she does not have to rummage around in the console. But then again we don't really keep much in there anyway. that is what the glove box is for. JimP.
I installed Kenwood 10 disc changer in console box
(takes about half the room) but it was BIG to start with.
Looked at other spots, but under seats did not look good (too
small, if you still want to move them. Under rear
seats seemed like it would get crushed when folded.Bought the kenwood
from Crutchfield and special Ford Adapter $200 + $80 or so. works great cdr/rw compatable... NEVER Skipped yet (2yrs.)They also make a 6 Disc unit.
