Hi everybody, I'm new to fte so I thought I'd introduce my project see what everybody thinks. I recently bought a 78 f250 regular cab long bed. In the process of I stalling a lift. My first plan for this truck was for hunting an messing around in the mountains. The more I mess w this truck the more I want to buy another (77 supercab f250 camper special 460 c-6 2wd down the street) but that's another story. Goals for this truck is have a daily driver but I know gas mileage is out of the question so I been wanting to put a 12v cummins in it an was wondering if my stock drivetrain will hold up? I'd like to upgrade/swap the front axle d44 to somthing but don't know what ?? The more I read about the 351m that's in there the more I want to get rid of it. Again all an every input is appreciated thanks
You know you can never have just one, right? Welcome to FTE, and good luck with your project. Your 351 can turn into a 400 pretty easily, and a 460 will bolt up to the same tranny. If you use the search function, there is a lot of info in here on Cummins swaps.

If you can find one i'd go with a D60 up front, look for a 78/79 F250 w/sno fighter package or a 79 F350 to find a front D60, sometimes sellers don't know what they have and you can pick up a rust bucket w/D60 for a few hundred bucks, otherwise they'll set you back about $1,200-$1,500, some guys on here claim they can't even give away a D60 but other than just talk that's not been my experience, they pull a pretty penny.
I've looked in every salvage yard around can't find a box so I'm goin to put a flat bed on It all the 70's fords I looked at r 2wd I was wondering if a d60 or another equal to from somthing else will fit w/o problems hate to find new leafs or somthin else after spendin $ on the lift
Also I found a place that is kinda close fordcummins.com they sell kits to take all the guess work out of it or do it for u I'd like to try it on my own just cause it's my project not thiers haha also I want that other ford I think it's a good buy 4 1500$ but have a hard time spending the $ on a 2wd how hard would it b to covert it? I'm new to the formn I'll try an use that search(not very good w computer).
