Bought a 2001 F250- 7.3 L Very weak off the line when cold IHMANKY and others had same problem. Could someone give me some ideas, this does not sound to be a once only problem. Could this be Torque converter?

We just picked up an extremely well cared for low mile (25k) '01 PSD F350 SD at work and I'm shocked at how slow it is. It carries approx 2,000 lbs in the bed, but it is incredibly slow off the line, and not much faster when the turbo spools up. My '08 5.4 4WD quad cab feels like a Ferrari compared to that thing (I swear).
I think the 7.3's greatest asset is the anvil like reputation for durability. My brother has a very old 7.3 (early 90's) with over 200k miles with zero problems. I think the transmission is the weak link in that vehicle (assuming it's an auto - the manual is great), so if you do the normal 7.3 tweaks (intake/turbo/chip/exhaust etc.), be sure and beef up the tranny, or budget a new one...
Oh, and do a search there's a ton of info on the 7.3....

A guy I used to work with had the same thing, and it was his turbo. He got it rebuilt, and no more problems. Could be a ton of other things though. Impossible to troubleshoot over the internets.
