I have a '58 F100 that needs a motor (has the transmission). I also have a '84 jeep wagoneer someone gave me. I was wondering how much of a pain it would be to make it fit the ford. I've worked on fords more than any other vehicle but it would be nice to have the Chrysler 360 from the jeep in the truck. I wouldnt mind the 4wd also but it seems like more trouble than its worth.
My first concern would be: will the engine and tranny marry up? You might want to pull the tranny out and try test-fitting it to the motor. Obviously, you'll need to pull the motor out of the Jeep and dip it in bewteen the inner fenders to see if it'll even fit. Likely there's room, but at the same time, you could mark for motor mounts. OEM motor mounts will likely have to be moved or removed. I'd use the Jeep motor mounts and see where they are going to line up on the frame of the Ford. Remember to leave room for exhaust, steering, etc - depending on what "goodies" your Ford has on it.
Also remember the correct degrees of angle the motor and tranny should sit at. Hood clearance? Radiator adaptation? and so on...
Unless you're hell-bent on the 360, maybe consider selling or swapping for a 351 ? Sure would be an easier install and adaptation!
