If the tank switch is going bad and all the fuel is being returned to one tank what happens if I start with 2 full tanks? Am I going to get stranded if I don't replace it b4 my 1500 mi trip? can I chance it, don't have $200 and we're leaving Sunday, not sure if I can even get one b4 then.

Not to bad of a job. There are 6 fuel lines held on with plastic clips, the electrical plug and the valve is bolted to the frame rail with 2 bolts.
