eot & ect ????
I pulled a box trailer weighing 17k#. I towing for 30 mins. I checked the readings and here are the #'s.
Oil temp 230 / ect- 195
After Idling for 10mins: eot- 219 / ect- 172
Is this normal?

No not normal. They should be within 15 degrees of eachother, outside of that and you are out of specs.
Sounds like you are going to need a oil cooler rebuild and an EGR cooler delete or replacement.
Mine was doing the same thing and was accompanied with white smoke out the tail pipe, now that the oil/egr coolers are new after my truck reaches operating temps. they are between 4-7 degrees of one and other depending on grade and throttle postion.

Like they said - that's a bad split. The only thing I would look at is what the temps are after she's stone cold, the next morning (before starting). The temps should be within 2 or 3 degrees of each other, that will tell you that the gauges are at least reading similar. If the temps are similar after the cold check - you need a new oil cooler and EGR cooler fast. I'd check out bulletproof diesels EGR cooler - it looks like the last one you'll ever need.
Finally - I'd say a good coolant flush with VC-9 (prior to the cooler replacement?) might be a good idea too. Either you have sand contamination of the cooler, or silicate fallout from old coolant plugging the cooler. Good catching the temp split - you saved yourself alot of money - thats the first step to a dirt nap.

Couldn't agree more. I have an edge chip that I monitor EOT and ECT. Towing 3500lbs I reached 235 Oil and 186 Coolant. I just purchased a complete 6.0 solution kit from MKMCustoms for 1300. Comes with new oil cooler, Egr delete, Black onyx HG, and arp studs. I would look at doing something fast before you cooler completely fails and your oil and coolant mix. This is caused by sand from the block clogging your oil cooler on the coolant side. A preventative measure for this is a coolant filter kit from Dfuser.com or Dieselsite.com. Keep in mind the kit from Diesel site is cheaper however it does not come with ball valves that you can close when you change the filter. This kit is a must have.

I'm using a scangauge ll and the eot/ect and tft temps are all within 3 degrees of each other in the morning when the engine is cold. This is a good double check for any type of monitoring device.

Mine is the same. But there are different setups for the scan guage. I think it depends on the model year. Originally I was getting about a 30* offset on my EOT, even at cold startup. I knew I either had a bad temp sensor or a false reading on the gauge. Basline readings always rule out the obvious.

The job is basic mechanics. No special tools, unless you consider torx bits special, are needed. What is needed is a lot of patience and then persistence. The task looks daunting because the engine compartment is tight and a lot of the top parts need to come off. Just eat the elephant one bite at a time and visit here often. There is advice for any question you will ask.

I am looking at getting a engine monitor for my 6.0. Will the scangauge ll provide oil temperature, I see from the literature that it provides coolant temperature but I dont see anything about engine oil temperature.
