With the deals one can get on a new vehicle, buying used is sometimes not as good of a deal these days. Trucks and SUV's are holding their value better now than in recent memory and you practically have to find a high mileage truck to get one that is significantly cheaper than a new one.
You aint lyin. My cousin is in the market for a used truck so I poked around for him and couldn't believe how high the fords were pricing out. A couple of years ago used trucks were cheap. I know personally that my truck has actually appreciated in value the last two years, that don't happen often.
Back in 1995, the engine in my '88 F-150 went kaput. I wasn't very senior in the Coast Guard then and I couldn't afford a second vehicle payment. So, I have a new short block put in and the fella doing the work for me simply re-worked the heads, valve job, springs, guides, etc. I now have reached the 100K mile mark on this engine and she's running like new still.
I learned by accident that if the chassis is in reasonably good condition, then a re-man engine / transmission may be a good option versus buying new or overpriced used.
After 100K hard miles, the clutch has failed. The truck has 200K on her. I'm fixing the clutch and anything that breaks for two reasons:
1. I know what I have and I know how to work on it (mostly)
2. She has completely fallen of the city tax register and she's very cheap to insure.
A little off guys, sorry. I was trying to make a point.
Well I got some good new from Ford customer service today after waiting 6 day and not hearing anything from service manager I call Ford again and got a real dig in person after 30 minutes on the phone/on hold at times as he talked with the warranty service person at the dealership and checking parts number for the work I had done, he came back and let me know it is warranted, gave me a case number and told me if the warrant service person /service manager don't call and straighten it out call him back, so we will see now what happens.
We're waiting on an update. Did the service manager call you and refund your money? Did he offer you a cup of coffee...? Did you have to call corporate again?
