guy wants to sell me his 84 f150 for $650. descent shape, heres the problem. he doesnt have a title, which means no registration and no driving on PA roads. so my question is should i try to call the dmv and see if they can find the title of a 84 truck? or should i forget it..although the dude seems nice im not sure if he stole it
Buy a Hemmings catalog, in the advertisements there are those that can get you a title for around $150. He will send you a letter to fill out. They really work, I've done 3 cars, I think '84 is the cut off year. The guy I use is in Las Vegas. No telling where you'll get your title from though, so far i 've got Ark, Maine and Utah titles, No problem at DMV registering them here in MO. He sends you a BOS, title, inspection and what ever else you need for your state, once I got a pair of tags too.
Good Luck, Donald, KC
call your local dmv and ask them what you need to do and maybe a salvage title. if you know a shop good they can get non payment title sometimes, i would try to get the seller to do this footwork and pay a little more with a title
Call the County Title Office and ask if they have a form that the original owner can use to petition the Court to have the Judge issue a court order allowing them to title the vehicle. Solves the no title issue.
I went thru this recently myself and its easier than it sounds.

In Wisconsin for me in the past all I needed was the last registered owners signature on a bill of sale to file for a lost title. Which can be a pain if the original owner has been dead for 30 years.
They've gotten real tough on having the signatures notarized nowdays.
My issue came up when I bought the truck and the owner moved out of state and never responded to certified mail I sent him but it all worked out.

Ya the last one I did was about 5 years. I bet the laws have gotten more strict since the cash for clunkers thing. I had to junk a car once because I could not get a title for it. The original owner died 30 years prior and and no living children, so the car could not be titled. A good barn find ain't worth anything if you can't drive it
thanks for the replies. i called the dmv today and they said that i would need to get a court order to transfer the title. im not sure if its worth it. prob just keep looking around.
