tranny's in pieces

Changing the trans fluid in my 95 f-150 since we bought it used at the dealer. When I pulled the pan straight down off the AOD-E, there was a little plug laying in the pan. It looks like a plug about the size of a marble with an o-ring around it and a thin stem on the top of it. The whole thing is about 1-1/2 inches long. Looked at filter and valve body, couldn't find any holes that needed filling. Any thoughts on where this guy might go?

That plug is put in the trans filler hole upon assembly. When they insert the filler tube at the factory, that plug is pushed down into the pan. Just throw it away.

Don't forget to drain your torque converter.

I have found several of these over the years. I believe they are used to block the dipstick hole at the assy plant. Whan they build the vehicle, they just use the dip stick tube and "push" the plug into the pan.

Question tranny's in pieces

Did your tranny fluid change go well? I'm buying a used '94 that has only had the fluid changed once in 128k, and I'm not sure about the filter. Sometimes people have problems changing the fluid after that many miles. Did yours go OK/ if so, what kind of fluid did you use? Mercon or Mercon 5? What brand?

Thanks,
