technical questions

Just got my turbo out, thanks to all the help on the stubborn bolt. (6 point socket worked with ALOT of PB blaster)

But heres the deal, got the exaust housing seperated. was a little curious first time i ever pulled a turbo apart and found out how the wastegate worked.

im wondering if the wastegate closes that hole up in the exaust housing, or if it opens it. if it opens it...in order to dissable it wouldnt i just be able to get a freezer plug and stuff it in that hole and take the wastegate off completly?

sorry if that dosent make sense.

the wastegate opens it when the spring setting inside of the wastegate head sees enough boost to move the rod. That is where it sends excess boost pressure

oh and by the way, the whole reason it is set up like this is to protect the turbo from an overboost condition. you can modify anything you want, but sometimes there are consequences

only thing it would effect is if you exceed 26 or so lbs of boost on a regular basis, your stock turbo will not last overly long
