Does this turbo look ok?
7.3 POWERSTROKE TURBO TURBOCHARGER COMP WHEEL : eBay Motors (item 110529026429 end time May-12-10 12:06:05 PDT)
Compared to a Wicked Wheel...
http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...PROD&ProdID=47
I'm reading that the Wicked Wheel will:
Reduce or Eliminate Turbo Flutter/Surge in 1994-2003 7.3L Ford Powerstrokes.
Lower Exhaust Temperatures - NOT increase them
Increase Low-End Throttle Response - you may "feel" like your truck has more HP, but it DOES NOT
Is NOT intended as a horsepower mod.
The Wicked Wheel will NOT:
Increase your performance
Increase your truck's horsepower
Increase or decrease boost
Increase or decrease fuel economy
Then there's the Banks....
BANKS 99/03 7.3 POWERSTROKE TURBO TURBOCHARGER REBUILD : eBay Motors (item 310219394949 end time May-17-10 17:45:57 PDT)
They look awfully similar..... So which one is better? Everyone pipe in!
Brandon, I was under the impression from reading things here that the cut off date for early 99 and late 99 was 04/99 or so? Maybe not? If the cutoff is 12/7/98 then I have the late 99-03 engine? The engine sticker on the passenger side valve cover had a build date of Jan 99 and a horsepower rating of 250 at I can't remember what rpm.
I'll get a picture of the whole turbo and spider when I get back in tomorrow and count up the compressor housing bolts.
Keith, Paul, There's no play in the shaft either axially or radially it spins freely and the shaft seems to spin straight. From a turbo diagnosis picture that was posted, it looks like this is a case of dusting, or wear from dirt particles. My bet would be that the housing isn't damaged and a new wheel can be slipped on the shaft without having to do anything else. The engine itself has little to no blowby so I'm lucky there, it runs great!
You have to "read between the lines"
The WW lowers the performance. That is the reason why the exhaust is colder.
Again - my engine is stock and I never, ever had a surge even hauling 25,000 lb set.
The newer wheel is noticeable improvement to factory WW
But yea, I'm going to keep with my stock E99 turbo until I have to upgrade my pipes or something, LOL, figure it works just as good and as long as the performance and milage stays good I'm happy though I may want to get those 3" intakes......
