Ok, here's the deal. I bought a used '08 F250 back in December. Not sure what job # it is but it was built 12/07. The check engine light came on and it was P0088, which is the code for high fuel rail pressure. I took it to my local Ford dealership and they said since it was something dealing with the fuel system, they would have to have someone check the fuel tank to make sure I don't have trash in it. They said if I have junk in my tank then it would not be covered under warranty. Also, they said it could take atleast a week to get a guy there to get a sample out of the tank and could take atleast 2 weeks before they get a result on whether they will warranty it or not. So, thats 3 weeks before they woulld even work on it. When I bought the truck, I bought an extended 3 year 30,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty that will cover it if Ford won't.
Anyways, I work offshore, so haven't had the time to leave my truck with them and also want a 2nd opinion, I don't think it should take that long. I have had the code reset so it would go into regen. I noticed that that is when the light seems to come on is when it trys to go into regen. Like it loads up with fuel to send to the DPF but it doesn't get their. After the check engine light comes back on though it starts running like crap. When I hit the throttle it feels like it is in regen (no power) but then it starts missing.
Any opinions or ideas of what it might be? Does it sound like the dealership is doing the right thing?
WHEN IT THROWS THE 0088 CODE MEANS ITS THE SENSOR ON THE PUMP IS BAD AND THAT MEANS YOU HAVE TO REPLACE INJECTOR PUMP BECAUSE THATS WHERE THERE SENSOR IS AND THAT IS A CAB OFF FIX HAD MINE DONE .WHEN IT RUNS LIKE CRAB IT'S IN LIMP MODE TO PROTECH THE MOTOR. IF YOU SHUT IT OFF IT CLEARS THE CODE AND WILL RUN BETTER
Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, when I restart the truck it resets and runs good for a few minutes but starts running like crap pretty quickly. When it first starting happening, restarting the truck or clearing the code, fixed it for a while but it has gotten progressively worse, and now it is extremely aggravating. After restarting the truck or reseting the code now it is only a couple minutes before it messes up again.
first thing I would do is make sure your fuel filters are ok. When was the last time they were changed and do you have proof. Other than that I would agree that it is the pump or a sensor.
Yeah, I meant to tell ya'll I just had the oil and fuel filters changed by the dealership probably 1500 miles ago. They said both fuel filters looked fine.
ITS NOT THE FTLTERS AND ITS NOT THE FUEL IN THE TANK IT THE SENSOR ON THE PUMP THE DEALER SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THIS WHEN THEY HOOK IT TOO THERE COMPUTER THEY FOUND IT ON MINE .NEXT TIME IT THROWS THE LIGHT DONT CLEAR IT TAKE IT TOO THEM LET THEM CHECK IT
Ok, had a chance to take it to Energy Country Ford in Port Arthur, TX. I'm working on a rig nearby. Tom in the service dept. was extremely helpful. I took it early Tuesday morning and they spent a few hours diagnosing the issue. Originally he told me that it was the high pressure oil pump.
He scheduled me to bring it in on Thursday and it was ready by Friday afternoon. When I picked it up the service ticket said that they replaced the fuel injector pump assembly and cover. I could not be more satisfied with the quick work.
The truck runs great now, the only thing is that the exhaust seems a little louder around the back of the engine, maybe where it connects to the DPF or something, not sure just listening from inside the truck.

The sensor called the FRP wich moniters rail pressure is NOT on the pump. that sensor is on the right fuel rail. What the op had fail was either the VCV or the PCV valves wich are on the pump. The most common reason for this fail is in fact water or trash in the tank.
We have been seeing lots of this for about a year now. Ford is sending an inspector out from time to time to take fuel samples. lab work on the sample takes about 2 weeks this is also normal at this time.

Km having the same problem also. Do u know the fost for fixing that?
I'm having the same issue with mine, but following this thread I am confused, mine is a 2010 6.4L it has become more frequent, I had it to the dealership for service 3 weeks ago, they changed the filters and ran it through the paces with a pressure test, I was thinking it may be a dirty injector or fuel system so I put in some cleaner, and it made no change. it also seems like it wont let the transmission shift as well, and then once it shifts, it is good until the top of the RMP range again. I just bought this truck and I'm going to be super pissed if I have to turn around and spend several K on repairing it.
Please tell me exactly what I should check, and how do I check it.
