I'm not concerned about the depth of the bed so much as I am about how f#I$king tall the whole damned truck is. WTF!! Like I said in my original post, they have way too much room between the top of the tire and wheel opening lip. It looks STUPID and it makes it a pain the the butt to put something in the bed like weedeaters, blowers, parts, ect.
Because not all of us keep our trucks on the road.......and off road we need ground clearance ...

I dont think it looks stupid at all. I think it looks good. Ford has the best lookign half ton on the road by far. Maybe you should by a government motors 1/2 ton. Before they made their latest body switch, even their "tough"z-71s sit on the ground like a car. After this most recent body switch I see they jacked them up a bit.
I don't care for the tall truck or tall sides of the box either. A F150 is nearly as big as my Super Duty. All this does is decrease fuel mileage because of the extra weight and height. Ford is just trying to make it look tough like the other guys.

Why is it that anytime someone has a complaint about a truck they get railed on and told to go buy another brand? We are all Ford guys or we wouldn't be here in the first place, but being a Ford guy doesn't mean we are required to love every aspect about everything they make or keep our mouth shut.
Personally, I think the 05-08 F-150 is one of the two or three best looking F-series ever made(though I do dislike the high bed side as well). I think the 09 is one of the two or three ugliest ever made of any brand, but I would choose the 09 because interior comfort and drivetrain are more important to me than exterior looks. I think Dodge has the best looking exterior out of the current half tons, but I would take an ugly Ford over a good looking Dodge any day of the week. We all have personal opinions and just because we think something looks stupid or ugly doesn't mean we are whining or should go buy another brand.....
Lots of guys like a high truck because it's badass.
But lots of guys just working for a living would rather not have to lift and climb so high to lift/get to the junk in the bed.
IMO, Toyota's got the right idea here. Their 4x2 has a low ride height. Those who need/want the high version can get the 4x4 or the 'PreRunner' package.
Back when a truck was a workingman's ride, Ford kept the tailgate height low also. Take a look at the ride height of an old 4x2 F100 sometime.

For me the problem isn't that the bed side is too high or that the truck is too big/tall. It's that the bed and cab don't look right proportionally. It looks like someone put a super duty bed on a ranger.

I do see your point here. Ones opinion is just that and they are entitled to it. I was wanting to bash government motors more than ridicule the poster I guess. There have been times getting in and out of the bed of my truck is hard, but I would rather it sit higher though for looks. But I disagree about the looks of the 04-08's, I think it is just right, I don't feel the bed looks stupid at all. It is the best looking half-ton out there. Although, I do think the Rams that were built in like 05-07 when they put those 20 inch chrome rims on them from the factory are pretty dang good looking too though(close second).

I agree that the OP came across a "bit" whiny with his remarks and choice of words, so he probably could have voiced his opinion in a better manner. I just see that all the time in every group here that I visit. Someone has one complaint about a particular Ford and about 20 people call him stupid, tell him to go buy a Dodge, tell him he doesn't know what he is talking about, etc.
I like the 04-08's too. It's in my top two list for best looking front end on any 150 ever built. The high bed looks good on a crew/extended cab, but on a regular cab it just doesn't look right to me.
Maybe I should have chosen my words a little better but at the time I was a little P.O'd. My bad. And for the comment that not all folks keep their pickups on the road and they need clearance for off roading, I get that. But I'm sure if you conducted a poll, probably 75 percent or more of the 4x4's that are sold never see the dirt. So you sacrafice the usefulness and comfort of the majority for the "looks" and "attitude" of a few. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. And as for removing the 2 inch blocks, will that effect the driveshaft length and cause issues? If not, thats definately something worth doing.
If you just remove the rear blocks, you will be running nose high. I don't know how much room there is for the driveshaft to slip, but I think you'd be ok.
Again, I really like the higher bed. Yeah, it's a bit harder to get my bike back there, but I love the added ground clearance and I think the higher bed sides add to some of the newer trucks' rigidity.
The thing is, if you use the bed on a truck (what a truck in intended for) and the bed is too high, why would you buy it? Wouldn't you want a smaller truck like an older model F150 or any Dodge or Chevy, or even a Ranger so you didnt have to struggle so much with the highth of the bed?
Now While I dont use my truck to haul everyday, I like it to be an all purpose vehicle. When I do haul, I find the deep box and side bed walls to be very useful. I like it because I can double stack boxes and whatnot, and not have to worry about them falling over the sides. I like the looks of the truck. Its big and mean yet sporty and useful because I can haul, tow, go off road if I want and have room for people inside with comfort. If I wasnt going to use it for hauling, maybe I wouldve got an Explorer.
This isnt an attack on you, honestly. I'm just not understanding why people buy a truck then complain about things like the bed being too high or crummy gas millage or not enough off-the-line pickup. Have a good day!
