390 on Propane

390 on Propane
I have a 390 that runs on propane. It will not heat up (factory temp guage will not make it to the normal bar). This truck has been in my family for 20 years and was told that the thermostat has been changed numerous time with many different temps and it didn't fix it. Do you all have any suggestions on what I should try with it besides the obvious getting a manual temp guage?

I wouldn't now is the time to do it, but when the weather turns cold again, cover part of the radiator, that should raise the temp. Adjust it (more or less) to where it works best.
I think propane does not burn as hot as gasoline.
