I installed a 3.8 Taurus 2-speed with a multi position rotary switch, adjustable Hayden thermostatic control & AC trigger. The fan is mounted in its original shroud, but is cut-down to fit inside the stock truck shroud.
The switch selects Full Off, Full Auto, Manual Low, Manual High. The relays & thermostat live in a small 4x6 box from Radio Shack on the inner fender in the location previously occupied by the air pump intake/muffler combo. The thermostat adjustment **** is on one end of the box & has a scribed scale on the side to give me an idea of temp setting.
to hitokori.............i have a 94 f150 step side with a 5.0L/302 and it used to have a single core until it blew, now it has a 2 core radiator with a 195 temp stat in it. i was thinking of running 2-12 inch fans. 1 for the radiator and the other wired for the a/c when its on or just 1 16 inch for the entire cooling system.............thanks for all the help on this subject everyone.................
ok when ur wiring the 2 fans up and u go buy a relay switch kit thing
wire the 2 fans together that way when the temp switch kicks on both fans will run and when u turn the ac on both will run...
it will cool better this way and if u want them wired seperate u will have to buy 2 relay kits lol
the 2 core radiator will work great... i have a 1 core and it does the job unless its like 100 degrees outside ans im stuck up someones but in traffic but even then it only gets up to about 215 or so....
its a flow problem because as soon as the engine turns more rpms it cools down really fast
^ FWIW, my single fan cools REALLY well. I have an IR temp thing and as soon as my fans kick on the temp drops instantly. After my water pump, the fan hardly comes on at all once the truck is moving. Actually, when the fan is on when I'm sitting (210* at the far "O" on NORMAL), once I start moving the temp drops quick and the fan kicks off.
whats up guys............thanks for all the info and pics. i got great ideas about making brackets but, as far as fabing one i don't know how i will do it. i just got too many ideas running through my head. everyones setup looks good. i can't wait too do mines and hear the fans pulling that air. i think i will run a relay and in line fuse for this setup and look for a 130 amp alt...........thanks again for all of your support on this subject...............
^ The fan only pulls about 15-20 amps for the single. If you have a good battery, you should be all set.
I got the fan switch from Jegs and the fan relay from there too. It had a pre-fabbed harness, so that was a big selling point, even though I do most of my wiring myself anyway.
