Engine Noise
Could someone please tell me if they think my issue is a piston slap? I have ready several thread where people are describing a ticking sound coming from the motor. Most of the threads state that you can hear the ticking when the vehicle is first started. My issue is that there is no noise when the car is started, and the ticking only seems to start once the car has been driven for a little while and its warmed up. The noise seems to be audible from both sides of the vehicle, and the ticking increases as the rpm's increase.
Somebody told me that they thought it might be a sticky valve, but I wanted to ask you all what your opinions are.

Pick up a mechanic's stethescope from any decent parts store and start listening at the various parts of your engine where you think the noise is coming from. Check the oil pan area also. Hopefully the noise is not coming from there.

Check out your exhaust manifolds. There have been a few on here that thought that it was lifter noise but it turned out to be exhaust manifold bolts that have rusted away allowing the ticking noise. I would check it out as your truck is quite when you first start it up, then gets noisy as it warms up. Look through the wheel wells to see if any of the exhaust studs have rusted away.
