Have a 1989 F150 4.9 liter in line 6 cyl. I removed the throttle position sensor and am having trouble getting it back on properly, the engine speeds up and will not return to proper idle as it should.. Is there some trick to getting it on right? Your help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
You'll probably have to press it up against the throttle body a little out of alignment so the tabs on the sensor clear the throttle shaft. Make sure it's completely flat on the throttle body without forcing it and rotate it slightly so the screws line up and you should be good to go.
This job is a lot easier if you remove the throttle body and then R & R the TPS. While the throttle body is off your truck clean the Idle Air Controller and the EGR return port too. The voltage on the TPS should be less than 1.0 VDC when adjusted correctly. Different manuals have an idle range from .48 VDC to .98 VDC. The movement should be smooth to the top at about 5.0 VDC.
Thank you Michael, for the info followed your s and Ipumps directions and it worked out well... I'm on the road again!! without any hesitation..Thanks a
