Muffler Delete Question

After all of this time I have finally started to mod the truck. Just finished with the foil delete about 15 minutes ago. WHAT A PAIN! Ford needs to sell that glue to NASA - Maybe they wouldnt lose any more foam tiles on the shuttles! I have all the stuff for the CCV Mod but I am waiting on the 6637 filter to do both at the same time. It seems as if nobody has any in stock in this area.

My question concerns the muffler delete mod. I have a stock 3.5" exhaust with no Cat. I have 2 friends (probably not much more than that ) that have same year 250's (2000). One is an automatic and that other is standard transmission. Both have done the muffler delete. The manual tranny truck sounds awesome! However the automatic sounds sick. Neither one has done more than the muffler delete and I dont want mine sounding like the automatic version.

Can anyone give any details if there is a difference in sound between the autos and the manuals? Could it be something with idle or different setups of the vehicles based on the tranny?

I know this sounds like a weird question and I personally would not have thought there would have been any difference but the sick sounding one has a horrible chuncking sound to the exhaust whereas the manual has the "big truck" clean sound.

What am I missing???

Thanks,
Doug

Maybe your friends manual truck has a Cat. and that's making it sound more mellow . That's my best guess.

Although our diesels have that distinct 7.3 sound every truck has its own little sound if that makes sense. Depending on mods done to each individual truck will make it sound different of sorts, auto or manny. As for the muffler delete, lots of guys are running them in Tenn. so inspection laws really won't matter to you but IMO you could just run a full complete 4 or 5 inch turbo back exhaust for a hundred or two and get a nice clean and sounding exhaust. Before my MBRP duals W muffler I actually removed my stock muffler and had a glasspack welded in, the job was very cost effective and it did sound nice but I eventually wanted a full 4 inch system from head to toe. Really, nothing against deletes, they work and do the job and I liked mine but look around at our sponsors for a full system, they run some smokin deals. NASA panels, lol..Got a kick out of that..

Thanks for the answers. I think the best thing to do is save up for a 4" system and go that route. In the meantime I will want to find others in this area and get a better feel of the sound that the majority produce with the muffler delete. If only one sounds that way then I will remove mine until I get the full system installed.

That is awesome! That is the sound I am looking for. It sounds like the guy who had the manual.

When you rev'd it the second time there was a little chunk to the sound. Comparing it to the one I was talking about his chunk is 10 X more powerful overriding any turbo whistle that was very evident in yours. I feel better about the muffler delete.

Thanks for the input. Did you hear the second video posted above. How does yours compare to that example?

what exactly is the palmshaker? ive never heard of that.

I have the muffler delete on my 4 inch MBRP and is sounds alot like that. i'll shoot some video of it when i get a chance and post it up here.

Also,
too see if i wanted to put in my muffler delete, i just removed every thing from the muffler back for a bout a week and ran it like that. only diffference in the sound after i added the muffler delete was it was quieter in the cab and i didnt hear as much whistle. back by the tip though. it sounds badass.

Do you have a manula or at?

Clint, it's a manual tranny in a PSD...shakes your palm while idling......hence, it's a palm shaker...
