I have some questions about motor mounts on the frame. I have a 400 in my 76 4x4 and am swaping in an fe block. I haven't been able to find the motor mounts that bolt to the frame.
Does anyone know the physical differnce between the 400 mounts and the fe block ones?
And also I was told that mounts from a 302 could be made to work. Anyone tried this?
I just put an FE in a truck that had a 351M (same on the outside as the 400) and used the same towers. Are you using an auto or manual trans? I'm sticking with the four speed and the clutch linkage worked though it installs differently on the engine side. I did, however, run into drive shaft issue because the the rear ot the engine is set back an inch farthe making the driveshaft an inch too long now. At least the frame brackets for the trans crossmember had the hole for the new crossmember position already.
It is a 4 speed truck. What do you mean when you say the engine is an inch furthar back? Does it require moving the trans? Is there no way to avoid that?
Yup, the rear of the of the block ends up an inch closer to the fire wall so the trans gets moved back too. Not much you can do about it unless you want to get creative, then anything is possible.
So I was able to move the mounts 2 1/4" forward to make up the differnce. Unfortunatly I think the mounts still make the engine too low and the are contactig the headers. I can't seem to find the proper mounts around here. I think I can get some 302 mounts around here, and I'll give those a try. I think they are higher mounts
I think I got it figured. The "302" mounts are actually badly modified 360 mounts. So I picked those up and fixed back to how they are supposed to be. Hopfully should work out
