Transmission Problems on 04
I have an 04 F250 5.4 4R100 trans with 240,000 miles. For over a year I have been getting a shift solenoid B fault code, but I have never had any problems with the transmission shifting even while pulling a 15K stock trailer. I talked to the trans tech at our local Ford house and he told me this was most likely a connection problem, and not to worry as long as the transmission did not go into safe mode and continued to shift properly. In the last week, the trans has started going into safe mode, and I am now getting a 1-2 shift error. Also, the trans has a very had shift coming out of 1st gear (after the truck has warmed up) and sometimes feels as if it goes directly to 3rd from 1st. After carefully inspecting all the wires and connectors, including the one on the fender well, I have decided to replace the solenoid assy, again following the advice of the same Ford tech. With all this in mind, I have the following 2 questions. A) Do you think I am on the right track or am I looking at a tranny overhaul? B) How do I find out if I need the PWM solenoid assy, or the Non-PWM one. Also, because the tech at Ford asked, I did run a SuperChip programmer on the truck until the first day I go the SSB trouble code. His claim was that SuperChip can and had burned out shift solenoids. Thanks for your time, and sorry about having to write a book.
