I bought a 92' F-150 4x4 ext cab long bed a week ago and have been terrorized by this shuttering problem. I does it at about 1500 rpm when doing about 40mph. I believe this happens in just after it shifts (AT).
Another problem I have is an annoying stuttering the truck has durring take-off. It almost feels like i am driving over a gravil
road.
I have a feeling these are common problems with this model truck.
The shuddering at 1500 rpm and 40 mph is most likely the torque converter. It may be fixed with a simple fluid flush, and they do make additives, although I've never used them. Try flushing out the fluid, or if you drain it, make sure you drain the pan and the converter. See if that does anything for you. If not, then the converter must be replaced, along with some changes made to the transmission. You can call a reputable transmission shop and tell them you have converter shudder and they will probably quote you $500-700 to fix it.
I really dont know what the shuddering during takeoff could be, but it couldnt be the converter to my knowledge. Maybe someone else has had this problem. I am assuming for all of this you have the E4OD, right?
Sounds like a bad CV joint or double cardan joint in your driveline. My Bronco did the same thing on takeoff. Other possibilities might be an engine/trans mount or the clutches in the rear end chattering (if it's a limited slip)
