headder wrap ?
First you have to consider why you want to use it.
If you have a heating problem and think that the header temps are high, then you may want to consider that the engine is lean, and you will probably not solve the problem.
Some folks use it to try to eliminate some heat soak issues with the starter, and feel that this is a reasonable solution. In the majority of cases it is not, and this problem can be resolved via other methods that do not require any wrap.
Other problems associated with the wrap is the performance of the header itself. Hot air takes up more space thus having a requirement for a different sized pipe. If you dont wrap the pipe correctly, and have too much heat retained in the pipe, it can stall, or prevent air flow velocity. In this case the air can "stack" and hurt performance.
This may require a larger primary pipe, and again this can compound into a larger problem.
Overheating a tube is also a said problem, and while this is possibly true, one still has to wonder what the benefit of a wrapped tube would bring.
Most folks stay away from wrapped headers.
the wraps also void the warranty of the headers due to there tendency of absorbing water and rotting out the pipes.
this of course can be prevented by using a spray made for the wraps to repel any moisture build up. it will still void the warranty though.
You can also use the header wrap to change the tone of flow masters as well. If you wrap the mufflers, they have more of a deep mellow non tin sound to them. it sounds real nice.
