Hi. I own a 1992 Ford Ranger 2WD L4-140 2.3L SOHC, and I have been having the following problem for some time already. I have tried to identify the issue to correct it, but I haven't been able to locate a possible cause for it.
These are the symptoms : The engine works perfect while it is cold and have not reached its working temperature. It nicely output its modest amount of HPs. However, as soon as it reaches its working temperature, it loose power markedly. It seems like if its timing were delayed, and it barely can hold it on the fift gear. Starting from an stop while the air conditioning is on, is really problematic since it barely can move forward. Again, it feels like the engine is out if timing (delayed!).
During the winter however it works a lot better.
It sounds like a thermal sensor somewhere in the engine is malfunctioning. I too would have expected a light. If the computer has stored a code at all, it should be easy. Hopefully it did. Finding a bad sensor without a code could be a real pain.
