My dad plows with a crew 6ft. bed, and it is pushing it big time with the size. We plow some apartments and you can barely back drag out of a parking spot without hitting the car behind. It can be done but you would be limited on what kind of jobs you would be able to get. If you have wide open lots you shouldn't have any problems. You have to think that you are adding another 4ft. in front of a already long truck. Hope that helps some. Western plows are nice, if you go with the pro plow you can always add wings if you want to make it bigger.

I have a Western 7.6" inch poly on a UltraMount to UniMount conversion hitch. I plow with a Crew Cab Short bed V10 250. The truck is pretty big, but I manage. The leaf spring turning radius is extremely poor, so if you have a coil sprung front end, you are better off. That CC/LB you got will be like driving a semi when plowing. Good luck, hope you got large lots.

As for the plow, it runs like a raped ape. Only problem I had with it was a chain that snapped over a very large bump. But I bought a better one and off I went. I am replacing it this year with a Boss 9.2 VXT V Plow, but mainly because I need a larger plow with V capability, not because I had excessive problems with the Western. And, with the older Uni Westerns, you can keep rebuilding them forever and ever. They just last. All in all, a solid plow. And 8 ft is slightly larger than the width of the truck, perfect for plowing and transportation, which is another big factor.

I have a Western pro-plow dated 1984 on a 1983 GMC reg cab/long bed. Perfect truck length. I'd hate to plow with a crew cab or anything other than a standard cab. The Western plow is an incredible piece of machinery - very nicely engineered and durable as can be. I do add 300# of sandbags to the bed of the GMC to offset the front plow weight. I plow my private drive and road, but with the plow sticking out another 5' in front of the truck, it still makes for a long package. There are days I wish I had a fullsize Bronco/Blazer to have an even shorter rig.

I have an 04 f250 creww cab & long box. I don't plow professionally but the length is a handicap on my father's curved driveway. Either I cut the corners or I have to back up and go forward many times to clean the curves. I did the same driveway many many years ago with a 78 Jeep CJ. What a difference. Again size does matter but in this case the shorter the better.

BTW I am from Canada and have an 8 foot Artic plow. I thought 7 1/2 foot would be too narrow when angled.

7 1/2 ft plow will not cover the path of our trucks at full angle, 8ft barely does.

I have plowed with my 05 F350 CC 8ft box since new and it's a real PITA at times. You definetely don't wanna go smaller than 8ft plow because of the length of truck. It really depends on what you're plowing, lucky for me I have all bigger wide open lots. If thats not the case with you, look for a short box to make life easier.
