Can't speak for their F150 stuff, but the guys over on Stangnet.com swear by them. They're on of the most reputable tuners out there for the 3V Mustang crowd. They seem to have great customer service as well. I really don't think you'll have a problem.
I feel better already. I thought they were good on Mustangs and I thought that should carry over to the 150.
This is just my opinion, but a good 'stang tuner does not necessarily make a good F150 truck tuner. How many Mustangs have you seen towing a 7500 lb boat (as an example).
There are plenty of experienced and reputable F150 tuners that will do e-mail or client-server tunes (Power Hungry Performance, 5Star, VMP, Troyer) and have great customer service. I think 5Star is even a forum sponsor. PHP used to be, but they have discontinued their sponsorship.
I guess I should have mentioned.....they cater a lot to the Lightning and Roush F150 guys as well. So they're no stranger to heavy haulers. I don't proclaim that they'll be any better than the above mentioned F150 specialty tuners, but lets not freak the guy out for no reason.
No intention of freaking him out - just making sure he has all the facts before making his decision.
It's all good!
believe he already made his decision. He was looking for justification of his purchase.
SCTis also a favorite in the Dodge Ram segment. As a previous owner (hence my name) everyone ran SCT
OP they are a great company that stands by their product.
ETA: I assumed SCT was Superchips. I have no idea about SCT.

You are correct, I've already ordered the unit. I may decide to get tunes from somewhere else but they talked a great game. The only thing I didn't understand was they said all their tunes were the same except for different octane settings. That doesn't make sense to me. I would think you would won't specific tunes for example: MPG Maximizer, Towing, Street Performance etc. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong.
I purchased my SCT X3 from Brenspeed and haven't had any problems. I made the purchase primarily for tow tunes and to improve transmission shift strategies. I have the 87 octane economy tune, 87 octane tow tune and the 91 octane tow tune. The tow tunes work great. A little more grunt and much better shifting. The economy tune has much better throttle response and much better shift strategies. I haven't noticed a huge improvement in fuel economy, but definately much better driveability with all 3 tunes.

Doesn't make sense to me either. The canned F150 programmers typically come with 87 performance, 87 tow, and 91 performance. When you get custom tunes you can tell the programmer to emphasize certain aspects (MPG, 0-60, highway or city driving, how much weight you tow, altitude, terrain, etc.) - that's what a true custom tune is all about - small tweaks to match your driving style, environment, and objectives (as well as your truck's hex code).

That makes more sense, but this is the first time I've seen someone get the 91+ octane towing tune. Not sayin' it's wrong; just different, ya' know?
They wanted to program in a 93 ontane tow tune and I was a little hesitant because I've been to many places that didn't sell or were out of 93 or 94 octane fuel. They cautioned me not to go right to the 93 octane setting while towing for risk of detonation. Brent told me to run a 1-4 to 1/2 tank of 93 octane through before switching to that program to avoid any risk of detonation. I have seen what detonation does to platinum plugs and can do to an engine so I decided to play it conservative. It's not like we can go to the parts store and get any kind of spark plug we want for these modular engines like we could for a 351 or 460 engine. The biggest difference between the tunes is that the 87 octane tow tune is less aggressive with timing. Shift strategies are very similar if not the same.
