Will a 63-66 f100 tailgate fit on a 78 150?

A 64-66 should fit, 63 not. While it will fit the body lines are different.

the reason why I ask is cause mine is beat up pretty good and there is one locally on CL for a 63-66 tailgate I can get at a good price, I might be able to test fit before I buy. Just wanted to see if anyone has done this or knows for sure before I contact the seller..

 

CL sellers say all kinds of things. The 63 used the pre 61 bed which is different.

Look in the albums on this site and the 65 & 66 trucks, the 64 should have the same bed but if it doesn't look like the 65/66 stay away.

C4TZ9940700A .. Styleside Tailgate / 1964/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD.

C7TZ9940700A .. Styleside Tailgate / 1967/72 F100/350.

Both will fit 1973/79 Stylesides, but the hinges and latches are different as is the styling.

The correct tailgate:

D3TZ9940700A .. Styleside Tailgate / 1973/79 F100/350.

 

ok so then I would have to use the 60's latches and mounting?
but physically it will fit?

 

You will need 1973/79 latches and hinges. The two tailgate supports (scissors), striker plates are the same 1964/79.

The (as specified) 1964/66 & 1967/72 tailgates will fit, but will not look right. IMO, get the correct one.
