Goofy Idea...
I have a severe lack of information about mod motors... and therefore as humans are wont to do fairly often totally want to avoid it... I've looked up the standard heads cam, exhaust, tune, intake combo... sorely disappointed... Like 50 hp for 5000. then I looked at forced induction, and people are giving me answers all over he place on that. I've heard that mod motors can take anywhere from only 8psi boost to 27psi with out messing with the lower end. not too mention no one makes a kit and I dont know enough about it to make up my own.
What would I have to do to swap in a small block? Obviously the computer, transmission and engine mounts would come up.
I was thinking that raping an engine bay from a 2000 exploder with a small block would be my best bet.
So my question is how well would the sensors from say a 2000 explorer with a small block bolt in with the harness of the mod block. Obviously I'd have to swap out the computer, but if I can use the harness that would be okay...
That also brings up issues of transmission compatability... Could I leave the Mod block ECM hooked up the trans (if it fits the small block) and the Small block ECM hooked up to the engine... I dont know the interconnectivity there, for example if down shift is actuated by RPM, rather than vacuum then I would have to find a way to hook the trans computer up to some sort of tachometer.
Brings up the transmission. Since they kinda meshed the change over, and if i've read correctly the transmission in my truck is the same as an older E4OD, so I dont see why they wouldnt bolt up or at least I could swap out bellhousings.
Engine mounts are no big deal... just fabbing up a model from an older truck for the engine and making some mounts to match it. Thats just attention to detail. Unless it gets to start having to swap out power train too.
Now before you go saying the 5.4 is better than my beloved 5.8, know that its not going to stay stock or 5.8. But has anybody heard of doing this? I think people have done it with the mustang so... But my only other option is to put the 5.0 coyote or the boss 6.2 in it, not bad choices just prohibitively expensive at this point. But I have a donor power train from a 89 truck so not too expensive there.
You can't mix-and-match PCMs so one controls the engine, the other controls the tranny.
For the F150, there SHOULD be a blower kit available. But 27PSI? Someone's lying

The best thing for you to do MIGHT be to get a Lightning motor - a supercharged 5.4L with a PCM that matches MIGHT be a somewhat simple bolt-in. While you're doing it, change the rods. Powdered metal rods don't like a lot of boost.

From New Haven, CT Craigslist, complete 2000 Lightning for $2900:
2000 ford lightning f150
8 psi on a stock engine should live a good long time and be reliable if tuned correctly...ON A DYNO! That is the key,not a one size fits all tune.Vehicle specific.Dont just discount this engine study more.
And yes the old trans is similar but mod motor to standard ol small block is NOT the same AT ALL!!!
The Lightning swap would be the best route but there again you will need all the correct equipment for intercooler etc. as well.
The alternative? Cut up what you might think of as a plain work truck. I wouldn't feel guilty about doing that, at all. I'd recommend the 2nd Gen Lightning stuff.
