2003 Transmission problem

I have a 2003 F250 CrewCab Turdo Diesel. Today I was driving down the interstate and the trasmisson gage pegged to hot and the check gauge came on and the tow light on gear shift started flashing. The gauge pegged in less than a second. after 5 minutes, the gauge went back to normal and check gauge light went off. I stopped and checked fluid, everything was fine. started off an hour later, and the gauge was pegged again. Trans shifts fine, doesn't seem to be any other issues. Is there a sending unit or somthing like that going bad?

Need to get a scanner and get codes read to find out whats goin on. I dont recommened driving it much till you at least know what the codes are.

Hate to say, but I don't remember the last time the trans was serviced. I think the fluid was changed like at 90,000.
