I'm new to rangers. How do I know which tranny I have? It's a '92 2.3l with a 5 speed.
Are you pretty certain it is original to the truck?
What is the TRANS code listed on the Warranty Data Sticker located on the latch side of the driver's door?
I'm not 100% certain that it is the same 5-speed as Ford put in '94 2.3L Rangers, maybe someone else here can confirm it for you.
I can tell you that I have a '94 XLT Ranger, 2 wheel drive, with a 2.3L engine with a 5-speed. On my door sticker, it reads:Trans: M
It's my understanding that my 5-speed transmission is a mazda-made ‘M5OD-R1’ [M5OD = Manual-5spd-OverDrive] and they were installed behind 2.3L & 3.0L engines.
The gear ratios are: 1st gear: 3.72, 2nd gear: 2.20, 3rd gear: 1.50, 4th gear: 1.00, 5th gear: 0.79, Reverse : 4.74
I change my transmission fluid every 30K miles or 2.5 years.
It takes nearly 3 quarts of MERCON ATF. -- NOT 90W gear lube!
