You can EASILY build a 460 to make 600HP, 600 Lbs Tq. on pump gas. That'll smoke a V10 any day of the week, and do it a fraction of the build cost.

P.S. that's with a carb to boot !!!

In the end I basically want the most horses for the least amount of reworking. Theres got to be something beefier out there than a 220 hp 460?

Yes built from the ground up, cost, you'd be surprised. I will post up a link tomorrow to a budget built 460 that produced 650hp n 594 lb.tq. When I say budget we're talking a factory crank n block, single carbed engine.

well again all back to the term "easy" and "money" all depends on how you define that..

check out things like... "460 Ford" With 500 HP Crate Engine

for a drop in 500hp
460ford.com for other ideas

then the google terms 460 performance should keep busy for hours or days.. simple things like cam for drop in and if you dont want to do the engine work you can just plop on aftermarket timing headers and intake high flow carb, ignition system you can do all that with no experience other then knowing how to tune the timing back.

Well all of this would be done by a mechanic, I know jack about it. Perhaps I could find a friend whos a gear head, but that really gets me excited to hear about that. I wonder what would be the mpg on a 500+hp 460 and ball park cost with matching transmission. Anyways, thanks alot fellas, really informative and helpful you guys have been

Thanks!

Gas mileage...... LMAO !!! Your not going to get any kind of mileage, and a V10 is even worse !!!

Here's the link I was referring to;
Going to the dyno..

Spud told you about 460.com, I've come to like BIG BLOCK FORD'S - Portal better. Here is where you want to start "Proven Builds" PROVEN BUILDS . Sit down and read for a while, you'll learn a lot. And hopefully get a good isea of what you want when your done.

I will tell you this, a 500HP 460 in a truck will haul freakin *** !!!

First you have to decide what you want, in an earlier post you said the truck would be used for work, some hauling, mudding, no racing though. For that you surely dont need a 500hp 460. A 351 or a 400 built right will do any of those jobs well and pass almost anything on the highway. You asked about mpg, big hp doesnt come with economy, if its an issue, forget about hp. My old stock 351m's or 360 had plenty or torque and would run 75 mph all day long. So did my 300 six.

Really appreciate the pointers fellas, I wasn't asking about mpgs because I was concerned, I was more or less wondering what to expect. I mean any rough ideas? And also, what kind of ballpark figure are we talkin with a big bore 460, I know they can be done on a budget, I believe I saw a episode of horsepower where they did just that, got a 460 up to 400+ hp on about 2300$ minus labor ofcourse...

Anyways thanks
