Hi I need some help. Im sure most of you are familiar with a leaking windshield leading to corrosion of wiring regarding the Generic Electronic Module. I am currently attempting to locate the mod. My plan is to remove it, dry it, clean it and reinstall. I will then prepare some sort of shelter for the mod to prevent future water damage. I will then have the windshield re-sealed by a proffesional. Does this sound logical or am I way off? I am trying to save some serious cashola. Vehicle is a 97 f150. Here are the symptoms...
instrument panel/all guages not working
window/sometimes will roll down on its own
4x4/ light flashes on and off
starter/ flywheel engaging
I gathered on other forums the location is driver side, fuse box area. Is this correct? Thank you for anybody that can help me out!!!
The GEM is located above the fuse panel on the drivers side. The symptoms sound like the GEM. If it has been wet, drying it out may not be enough. Corrosion will be a problem. It may also affect the fuse block. Have the window resealed, then replace the GEM and fuse panel if they show signs of corrosion.
I have had my windshield replaced 3 different times, and had the installer make sure the bottom drivers side had LOTS of sealer so no leaks!
