Joined these forums about a week ago expecting to get it sooner lol .. but seemed to take forever, at least I learned some by reading the forums a lot before getting her .. anyway finally got my new stump puller/Jeep hauler!!
Paid 1,500 for her!! 1986 F250 6.9L 4x4, T-19(?), no idea what t/c came in these years .. has 103,000 miles (barely broken in) bought from the original owners (guy is to old to drive anymore .. 88 yrs old) wife said he came home after whatever he hit with the door and put up his keys and never drove again (feel bad for him .. he loved talking about his truck but still wouldn't talk about what he hit lol) .. think I got a hell of a deal on it .. everything works so far. Seems to run perfect even thou it sat for a few years (after I swapped batteries out). Doing a oil/fuel/air filter change 2day.
Also I wonder if it is age or miles that causes the oil cooler orings to lose their life? Do you see oil in the coolant?
If that were mine I think I would yank it apart now and start fresh with new orings and gaskets after servicing ours.
I just took my oil cooler apart and dang those were some dry o-rings. One of them cracked in half trying to walk it back to take it off. It was 36.00 at the local IH dealer for the o-rings. Was hoping for it to be cheaper than that! PO also *loved* silicone (and I'm not talking implants) I spent an hour digging silicone boogers out of the oil cooler! Lube them o-rings generously when you re-assemble. Made putting mine together uneventful.
The thing sticking out of the hood is a CB antenna mount .. already gone lol (no worries .. was a screw on type and was no holes, checked that before I even test drove it lol) .. I am going to splice it off that original wire and run it under and between the bed and cab and mount a antenna on each side of the front of the bed.
Nope no oil in the coolant.
Side Note: This guy was meticulous on his upkeep .. from 1987-2004 I got stacks and stacks of receipts of 1000$+ a year on upkeep and replacing stuff .. also had the original sales receipt 14,988$ Cash!! lmfao .. all the original books and sales brochures even found the complementary key chain they used to give out in a envelope in the glove box lol .. the engine look factory new except for normal looking headers .. factory gray throughout, after I washed all the dust and slime off it, if the dents, seat and odometer never said it I would have a hard time believing this truck had 100k on the clock lol
