MPG question

Well i'm almost done with my first tank of gas in my new Bronco(see sig). And it doesn't look to appealing for gas mileage. I think i've gone 200 miles(All of them stop and go driving pretty much, except about 50 on the highway at 65 mph) and I have a 1/4 tank left, the Bronco tank is 32 gal right?

I was hoping to get around 10 in the city, but from what I have done so far I don't quite think I will. I was wondering what others are getting MPG wise with there Bronco's that are lifted?

Also will my speedo being off show me the correct amount of miles I have gone, or will it read more or less miles? It's calibrated for the 31" tires that came stock with it.

MPG question

The Bronco tank is 32 Gallons. As for gas mileage what gears do you have? I see that your new Bronco is running 35's, I hate to tell you but your gas mileage isn't going to be all that great. Are you in a winter climate? My Bronco 90 Bronco with a 351w E40d and 3:55 gears gets around 8-9 MPG when I am in 4WD. In 2WD the best I have ever gotten was 16 MPG, but that was all highway driving. In the city I average around 11-12 MPG in 2WD. As for your speedo it will register a slower MPH, as will you odometer and trip odometer with 35" tires with a 31" calibration.

MPG question

I have 3.55's, I plan on going to 4.10's down the road. Right now i'm in a winter climate, been 20's a lot lately. I ran around a lot yesterday w/ my hubs locked in and out of 4x4 depending on the road. I don't expect much, just hoping for 10 mpg in city in 2wd, and in 4x4 whatever because I don't plan on putting TONS of miles on it in 4x4. I've only had the thing since monday, and we got a lot of slushy/icy snow yesterday which was why I was in 4x4, probably 30 or so of the miles were 4x4.

So in reality I have gone more miles than my odometer shows, which is a good thing because my MPG won't be AS bad as it shows when I fill up.

MPG question

Your actually running about 13%-15% more miles than you show. With my 33's I run 10% more miles than the odo shows. I've checked this with my gps and and the milemarkers on the interstate.

MPG question

You're about dead on about your gas mileage. I get about 11-13mpg with city driving and sometimes up to 15mpg on the highway depending on a tail wind or not. And I am running 31s right now with no lift, so I am sure you'll see not quite as good of mileage as myself Enjoy those fill ups, and just remember, that honda on the side of you is getting about 35mpg LOL

MPG question

85 model with no lift, 351, 32" muds, stock otherwise. 8-10 mpg depending on city/highway, occassionally towing small utility trailer.

MPG question

i have a 1991 and i just filled it up at 1/4 tank and it only took20 gallons. i went 257 miles on that amount of gas. i drive fairly easy and half of that mileage is slow hyway and half is back roads to avoid traffic. my point is is your gas gauge accurate?fill it and see how many gallons it really take, then figure your mileage. let us know what it is.

The gas gauge in my Bronco would show empty (or below) and I'd still have anywhere from 5 to 7 or even 8 gallons left. Don't even worry about mileage until you fill it up and see how much it actually takes. Then worry about your wallet.

MPG question

I bought my 94' Eddie Bauer 5.8L about a month ago. I drive it daily around 70 miles/day. I've been getting an amazing 17mpg. I have 31" MTRs on it and a flowmaster cat back. Other than that its stock. I have been very pleased with my MPG on this rig. I'm average about 380 miles and only filling up around 22-23 gallons. With a 32 gallon tank I should be able to get around 480 miles or more out of a tank of gas. That's damn good considering I can only get around 350 out of my 99' V10 F350 and it has a 38 gallon tank.

MPG question

I got 20.5 miles to the gallon on a trip I went on last month. I had just changed the oil and put in a half synthetic and also had the differential fluid changed in the front, rear and transfer case. I also maintained a speed of 55 mph. But all that said I still got 20.5 mpg!

MPG question

the way you calculuate your proper speed and mileage is pretty simple.

new tire diameter / old tire diameter = your constant.

for me, its 33/31 which is roughly equal to 1.0645.

multiply that times your speed or your trip mileage and you'll get true mileage (for 33's.)

for you with 35's its 35/31, which comes out to a multiplyer of 1.129. your 200 miles on that tank is actually 225 miles. that said, you're getting roughly 10 miles to the gallon.

thats not horrible. i got around 12.5 bone stock, but it dropped to about 10.5 or 11 once i lifted my truck. then i put a K&N filter in, and recently added a set of gibson headers. high flow y pipe plus flows out the back end, and im back up to 12.5 or 13 in the city.

since your truck is shaped like a brick, i would advise you to not drive over 55 or 60 mph. keep in mind that when your speedo says 60 with 35's youre going a little over 67. 50 miles an hour is right at 45 on your speedo. the main reason speed is important is because wind resistance is an exponential function. at 5 mph its negligible, but when you're going 50 its a lot higher...and its a whole whole lot higher at 70.

The best thing to do to help with the wind resistance is always drive with the wind. Nothing improves your mileage like a good stiff tailwind, except maybe when you've got a tailwind and you're going downhill. It may not get you where you wanted to go, but at least you'll get better mileage.

Be sure to bring a fresh set of pants for when he slams on the brakes.
