After driving full-size Broncos for 19 years, I purchased a 1998 Expedition EB last week.
In the past, I always purchased a set of the Helm shop manuals for the paticular vehicle I had. These were invaluable for knowing how to get things apart properly and for general troubleshooting and repair.
Yesterday, I went to Helm's web site to purchase a set of manuals for my Expy. Boy, what a surprise! The number of choices is overwhelming, only to be exceeded by the prices.
My question is this: For general troubleshooting (ie., knowing how to take a door panel apart or check the fluid level in such-and-such or figure out why my passenger window won't roll down) which manual (or set) do I need to get?
Some of the choices are pretty pricey and many seem to cover several vehicles...I only want to cover the 1998 Expy.
If anyone has purchased a set from them and could give me a recommendation, I would greatly appreciate it.
When I bought my '97, I went to ebay and found some people selling original Ford factory shop manuals on CD. I bought one of these for ~$30, and it has already proven to be invaluable. I believe they are made by Helm as well. To find one, go to ebay and do a search on Ford CD, and many will arise. Be careful, there are many people selling copies of the CD on CD-R's, but the price is also much less. I myself prefer originals, and made sure that is what I would get before bidding. I also got one for my '94 Bronco. They also take less space than the paper manuals, and contain all service procedures and diagrams.
>I've got the CD and a Chiltons. I find myself using both.
>Where one leaves off the other begins. I spent $20 on the
>CD and about $15 on the Chiltons.
