I have a '93 f-150 with the M50D trans and 106K miles. I put in a clutch and PP and TO bearing at around 80K. Now the thing is leaking a good bit of fluid that lloks like its coming from the gasket between the main housing and the tailshaft assy. I saw a warning about shifter plugs leaking, and now wonder if I'm mistaken about the gasket. My question is; if I'm not, can the tailshaft assy be removed with the trans in place to replace the gasket? Does anyone know where I might find a blow-up of this trans? Does anyone know how difficult it would be to convert to an automatic? My left knee is shot from downtown driving. What's required besides the trans itself?
Sounds like the rubber shift rail plugs. My ranger leaked bad and i could not find the leak, even when the trans was out for a clutch change until I read about the rubber plugs drying our and leaking. I just changed the clutch in my F150 which has the mazda trans in it. to change the plugs on it you either have to take the top of the tranny or it may be possible to if you take the tail shaft off. I did not change mine because I did not want to take the top off and there is not enough room to do it other wise, unlike on my ranger as when you take out the rubber plugs you replace them with frezze plugs. I do not have the parts number handy. I found the info on a ford ranger page.. Everything I have seen on the forums points to the plugs leaking. let me know what you find out and if you need the part number for the frezze plugs.
