Does anyone know why there has been such a delay on getting a Cold Air Intake system with a dry filter? I know K&N made one (seems to be too much bad luck with the oiled filter and the air sensor) and I know AFE has made one. Why has other companies like AEM and Banks not put one out there yet? I am a little apprehensive to buy one because not all of the aftermarket has produced one.
Is there a potential for engine damage? Is the noise factor to loud? I have emailed both companies and have not gotten a response other than "keep checking back".
I believe there are two issues (please note these are just guesses).
1. The economy has dampened new product development. (Maybe that's why there are no dyno sheets too?)
2. The stock intake is pretty damn good and savy buyers will look at the dyno sheets (FYI, I haven't seen a dyno sheet for a 09-10 A/M intake yet) and realize they aren't getting much for their $250-350 except eye candy.
What I have seen is the dyno sheet for an 09-10 with the snorkel removed AND a custom tune (running on a tow tune). Net result is a 7 hp gain at 5000 RPM. IMHP not really worth it (even if it is a free mod).
CAI's on these new trucks are snake oil... A waist of money. You'd have to be running forced induction to see any gains. The stock unit is ugly but works well.
I have yet to see a Cold Air Intake. That would require refrigeration and would in turn sap more hp out of the engine. Ambient air intakes are what you are referring too.
