i need some help getting my dipstick out. I'm putting on some ebay special shorty headers and got everything off except the dipstick. the SOB just willl not come loose. i was wondering if anybody had some tips or tricks on removing the dip stick for a 2000 v10. thanks
are you talking about the dipstick tube ? or just teh dispstick itself ?
i beleive the dipstick tube is held in with a single bolt, feel around at the base of it and you should find it..i think it is also a bit of a press fit to get it seated aswell.. so you may have to twist/fiddle with it to get it loose/out.
I just rebuilt my V10, it is a pain. Mine's an '01. You should have one bolt holding it in place just above the old logs, after that it is pressed in with a rubber o ring that you'll never get back in place. I got mine out by pressing it from the inside of where the oil pan covered it(not an option for you). You can work it a bunch, soak the base with some brake parts cleaner, may be able to get it out. Best option I've seen taken, cut it straight across atleast three inches from the block, take an inch out of the length. when reinstalling it get some fuel line that fits tight, 2 in long, half in down one side, half inch up the other. If you want a seal then you can put hose clamps on, but not to much pressure at the tube anyway. You will also notice this makes it alot easier to get that one screw in just above the headers. Just a suggestion, seen it done, looked good, should have taken that route myself.
My tube had rusted through right where it mounted to the block. I pulled an twisted, and could not get it out. it eventualy broke where it was rusted. I had broken studs to get removed so I got the Mechanic to remove the tube at the same time, the new one cost 37 bucks.
Took care of it. I figured that instead of breaking it unintentionally Id break it on purpose. I ended up using a cut off wheel and cutting off the dip stick tube below where the new headers go. then I used some tight fitting rubber hose and made a sleeve to join the two pieces back together. It fits tight on the tube and holds the two pieces together nicely/.
