carb problems

I have a 86 f250 4x4 with a 460. I think I need to rebuild the carb. I've heard there are aftermarket carbs out there that work better than the stock ones that are not that much more than having the stock one rebuilt. Can anyone recomend one to me? Mabey you can tell me the part number too. thanks Greg

Go to summit or jegs and buy a simple holley 600 cfm carb. It's very much related to the original carb that was on the engine. Some people like the edelbrock carbs, and they will bolt on also. You will need just minor fuel line re-routing and a little bit of throttle cable adapting to make any of these carbs work.

You will find these carbs don't have a lot of the vacuum ports for emissions, which is ok if you are not going to use the emissions system. If you need to pass emissions, you should keep your original carb and get it rebuilt.
